Technician: You’re nearing some career rushing records at UCF. Which ones are you aiming for this upcoming year?
Kevin Smith: I want to win every game, and those records are not on my mind. I want my teammates to feel the same way and think the same way, so that is my goal.
Technician: What is your style of running?
Smith: I would call my style of running – this year is going to be exact. People think I am a shifty-between-the-tackles back. I want to bring shiftiness, speed and power. I want to bring all of that to the table.
Technician: Have you talked to quarterback Mike Greco about his experiences at N.C. State?
Smith: I’ve talked to him, and I always ask him about N.C. State. I guess he feels like it wasn’t a fit for him and now he is here.
Technician: How much confidence does this team have that Kyle Israel is the right man to play quarterback?
Smith: We have a lot of confidence in Kyle. I think it is more important that he has the confidence in himself because that will take him a long way. If he has that confidence, then we will have confidence in him.
Technician: How was George O’Leary able to convince you to come to UCF?
Smith: I watched a UCF game, and I saw Alex Haynes, and I saw that he was a starter for four years, and I felt like I could do the same things. I knew UCF was rebuilding and getting new facilities, so I wanted to be a part of something special.
Technician: What does it mean to a Conference USA team when it goes on the road against a team from a “power conference”?
Smith: I don’t get into the conference of the teams we are playing. To me, anybody can beat anybody on any given day, and you have to be ready to face your competition.
