LSU needed only eight days to find a new offensive coordinator after Jimbo Fisher left on Jan. 8 to assume the same position at Florida State University.
ESPN reported Monday night that LSU hired the University of Oregon’s offensive coordinator Gary Crowton to replace Fisher.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette confirmed the hiring to The Daily Reveille at 4 p.m. today. Bonnette said a press conference will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to announce Crowton’s hiring. Bonnette said he “hoped” coach Les Miles would be present at the press conference.
Calls to the Oregon athletic administration and to Crowton’s home in Eugene, Ore., were not returned.
Before coaching at Oregon for two seasons, Crowton held head coaching positions from 2001 to 2004 at Brigham Young University and from 1996-1998 at Louisiana Tech. He was also the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears from 1999 to 2000.
