The No. 8 Lady Tigers held Tulane to its lowest scoring output of the season Sunday, defeating the Green Wave, 52-36, at Fogelman Arena in New Orleans. The Lady Tigers’ (6-2) win gives them a dominating 26-3 lead in the all-time series against Tulane (6-2) and their sixth straight win against the Green Wave. The loss ended Tulane’s five-game winning streak. Below average shooting plagued both teams. Tulane shot 26 percent from the floor, making only 14 of its 55 shot attempts. LSU fared slightly better, shooting 36 percent from the field. Both teams’ 3-point shooting was poor as well. The Lady Tigers shot 17 percent from behind the arc, and the Green Wave made only one of its 12 attempts for an 8.3 percent average. LSU coach Van Chancellor praised the Lady Tigers’ defense in the win. “That was the most dominating defensive performance in the first 34 minutes of basketball that I have seen,” Chancellor said in a news release. “Anytime you can limit a team to 10 points in the first half is impressive, and at one time [Tulane] had 19 points with six minutes to play.” LSU set the tone for the matchup early in the evening, jumping out to a 10-0 lead. The Lady Tigers led by as many as 16 points before halftime. At the break, the Tigers held a 22-10 lead going into the locker room. In the first half, Tulane shot 4-of-22 from the floor. The halftime score was the closest the Green Wave would get as the Lady Tigers’ lead swelled to as many as 26 points in the second half. The Green Wave had 21 turnovers, while the Lady Tigers had 17. LSU senior center Sylvia Fowles posted her fifth double-double of the season and led all players with 17 points and 13 rebounds. It was her 67th career double-double, and she is now tied for third all-time in the SEC in that category. She continues to lead the Lady Tigers in both categories. Fowles also added two steals and a block on the evening. LSU sophomore guard Allison Hightower was second in scoring for the game, adding 15 points. Tulane was lead by senior guard Nikki Luckhurst who scored nine points. This was the third game of LSU’s seven-game road stretch, the previous being a 77-46 win against Houston on Thursday. The Lady Tigers will take a 14-day break for final exams before their next game, a road contest against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 16.
