Freshman Rachel Laurent won the pole vault on Thursday at the Penn Relays, setting a new meet record at 13 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
It marks back-to-back seasons that the Lady Tigers have won the event at the Penn Relays as junior Katelyn Rodrigue was atop the leaderboard last season at 13 feet, 7 1/4 inches.
The Lady Tigers had never won the event at the Penn Relays before Rodrigue’s mark last season.
The women’s sprint medley team grabbed LSU’s first team title Friday at this season’s Penn Relays with a time of 3 minutes, 47.26 seconds, marking their third-straight victory in the event.
Senior Jeremy Hicks set a new outdoor personal best of 26 feet, 3 inches on his last attempt in the long jump to take home the championship.
Sophomore Melissa Ogbourne won the college triple jump at a distance of 42 feet, 6 3/4 inches. It’s her second Penn Relays title after winning the long jump the day before.
Friday was a helpful day for LSU in terms of qualifying. LSU qualified the men’s 4×100 (39.93 seconds) and 4×400 (3 minutes, 6.07 seconds) meter relays and the women’s 4×200-meter relay team (1 minute, 35.14 seconds) for Saturday’s Championship of America finals.
Junior Samantha Henry (11.31 seconds) and sophomore Kenyanna Wilson (11.50 seconds) finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash heat to qualify for the finals with junior Liann Kellman (11.77 seconds).
The men’s 100-meter dash heat qualified senior Trindon Holliday (10.48 seconds) and sophomore Gabriel Mvumvure (10.49 seconds).
Also qualifying for finals were freshman Barrett Nugent in the men’s 110-meter hurdles heat (13.89 seconds) and sophomore Tenaya Jones in the women’s 100-meter hurdles heat (13.51 seconds).
