The LSU track and field teams continued their dazzling season at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Az. Saturday, with 11 Tigers qualifying for the NCAA MIdeast Regional Meet.
Sophomore All-American Walter Henning heaved his way into the LSU record book after a 235 foot, 5 inch hammer throw, setting a school record and giving him the NCAA’s best performance in the event this season.
Tiger hammer throwers Chris Bless and Rabun Fox also tossed season bests at Sun Angel Stadium, with throws of 196 feet, 7 inches and 202 feet, 6 inches, respectively.
The Tigers also saw juniors Richard Jones and Jamaal James qualify with a 1-2 finish in the 800-meter run.
Junior Samantha Henry, sophomore Kenyanna Wilson, junior Liann Kellman and junior Kristina Davis were among six Lady Tigers who qualified in Tempe. The four all posted qualifying times in the 200-meter dash.
Up next on the schedule for the track and field squads is the LSU Alumni Gold Meet next weekend at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge. Looming after that is the famed 115th-annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
