Louisiana 4-H members will join their peers from across the nation to participate in a science and technology project as a way to celebrate National 4-H Week, said a LSU AgCenter news release.
The 4-H’ers will make ethanol, which is one of the most common biofuels in the country. In the news release, David Boldt, state 4-H science and technology coordinator, said the Louisiana 4-H members will experiment with making biofuel throughout the year.
“Because of this year’s focus on biofuels, we are going to expand the lesson and have students throughout the year make biodiesel,” Boldt said. “This biodiesel will actually be used to power AgCenter equipment.”
In the news release, Boldt said every parish will received at leaste one “Biofuel Blast experimental kit.” He said the kit will provide the components and instructions to conduct the experiment.
National 4-H Week is October 4 to October 10, 2009.
