LSU students can meet the Tigers’ recently hired men’s basketball coach Will Wade Wednesday at noon in the LSU Student Union.
The LSU cheerleaders, Mike the Tiger and the tiger girls will make an appearance at the event, and McDonald’s will provide free lunch to the first 200 students to show up, according to a news release.
Wade was hired to replace former fifth-year coach Johnny Jones and the news was made official Tuesday.
“My many years at VCU were some of the best years of my life and I will never forget the opportunities that university afforded me,” Wade said in a news release. “But the chance to build on the tradition and talent at a place like LSU was an opportunity I have been working for my entire career.”
Wade, 34, was hired at VCU in 2014 to replace Shaka Smart after he spent two years at the University of Chattanooga, winning SoCon coach of the year. Wade has led VCU to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, going 51-20 and has an overall 91-45 career record.
Prior to his time as head coach at Chattanooga and VCU, Wade was an assistant under Smart at VCU from 2009-2013, which included a trip to the Final Four in 2011.
