Not even a rain delay could cool LSU’s bats against Missouri.
The Tigers were led by senior second baseman Cole Freeman at the plate. Freeman was 4-4 on the night, and finished it off with a three-run homer in the bottom of eight inning.
Freeman was joined by his infield partner Kramer Robertson and sophomore pitcher Caleb Gilbert as the stars of the night. Robertson flashed in the field and at the plate, where he had two hits and a RBI.
Gilbert, who took the place of scheduled starter Todd Peterson due to a suspension, neutralized the Missouri lineup. He allowed one earned run and three hits on 69 pitches through five innings.
Freshman center fielder Zach Watson was a big help to Gilbert and the Tigers in the field. Watson spent the evening chasing down multiple fly balls that kept Missouri hitters off of the base path.
With the win against Missouri, the Tigers are scheduled to have a rematch with Kentucky on Thursday. Junior pitcher Alex Lange is set to face off against SEC Pitcher of the Year Sean Hjelle.
