Less than a week after having surgery on his face, junior right fielder Greg Deichmann hit a home run during his first at-bat of the season on Saturday against Army.
Deichmann was hit by a pitch during practice on Friday, Feb. 10. He suffered three fractures of the zygomatic arch in his cheek. He had surgery Sunday, Feb. 12 so he could play in LSU’s season opener.
Deichmann’s two run bomb came in the first inning. It put the Tigers up 3-0 at the time. LSU went on to win 9-0 in the scheduled seven inning game.
Deichmann was 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs. He accounted for 11 of LSU’s 46 home runs last season.
