LSU punter Zach Von Rosenberg was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against Tennessee on Saturday.
Von Rosenberg — a 27-year-old former professional baseball pitcher — said that the wind and rain during LSU’s game during Tennessee combined for the worst weather conditions he has ever punted in.
The redshirt freshman punted for an average of 49.2 yards against the Vols and pinned them inside the 20 yard line three times. The Tigers also recovered two muffed punts by Tennessee punt returners that led to 10 points.
“With the wind swirling the way it was any returner back there is at a huge disadvantage,” Von Rosenberg said.
Von Rosenberg has a net average of 43.4 yards per punt, good for 25th nationally and has pinned opponents inside the 20 yard line 10 times this season.
