The LSU Police Department has issued arrest warrants for ten people in connection to the death of Phi Delta Theta pledge Max Gruver.
The individuals are Matthew Alexander Naquin, Zachary Castillo, Elliott Eaton, Patrick Forde, Sean Paul Gott, Zachary Hall, Ryan Isto, Hudson Kirkpatrick, Sean Pennison, and Nicholas Taulli.
Naquin is also charged with negligent homicide.
If found guilty of hazing, each would be expelled from the university, and would serve at least ten days in prison.
The harshest penalty permitted by state law for hazing is 30 days in prison with a $100 dollar fine.
Negligent Homicide nets up to five years behind bars.
This follows a nearly month-long investigation into the Phi Delta Theta fraternity’s involvement in Gruver’s death. The Baton Rouge coroner’s office noted high-levels of alcohol, and some THC, in Gruver’s system on the preliminary autopsy report.
Fraternity pledges told investigators they received a group text that there would be a “Bible Study” at the house on Sept. 13, according to search warrants acquired by TigerTV. Pledges were asked questions about the fraternity, and made to drink alcohol if they answered incorrectly.
A witness told investigators he noticed Gruver was “highly intoxicated” that evening.
Fraternity members laid him on the couch, then left the house. When they returned the following morning, they found Gruver breathless, and took him to the Our Lady of The Lake Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The ten arrested must surrender by noon on Wednesday.
Sean Pennison is employed by TigerTV, and was suspended indefinitely this morning.
