LSU sophomore Carter Toms sits in an interesting position. He’s competing for a national championship while carrying a name that is synonymous with Tiger golf.
This weekend, The University Club, LSU Men’s Golf team’s home course, hosted the annual David Toms’ Intercollegiate Tournament.
And as luck would have it, his son plays for the Tigers, proving once and for all that the apple never does fall far from the tree.
“It’s a little bit weird,” Carter Toms said when asked about the tournament’s name, “but it has been going on for quite a few years now, so I’m getting used to it.”
Toms says he is pleased with the way the team has played this season, after some top-five finishes.
But with this tournament being held in Baton Rouge, it is safe to say that weather was certainly going to play a part in the outcome of the match.
“The golf course was a lot softer this morning,” Toms said. “But the conditions did end up helping out with scoring.”
The Men’s golf team won their only home tournament of the season with a score of 11-under par.
The team looks to continue it’s success as they march ahead to post-season play. And with the National Championship being hosted by Oklahoma State this season, the Tigers are definitely looking to spend some of their summer in Stillwater.
