The Tigers earned their first SEC win of the season after defeating Georgia 2-1 on Thursday night.
LSU has come up short in their past four SEC games, losing two and tying the remaining. However, the Tigers were able to clinch their first conference victory tonight after a score by junior Alex Thomas in the last five minutes of the game.
“It’s a big deal for us,” Thomas said. “We’ve been doing well this whole season, and we hadn’t yet beat an SEC team, which is our conference. We’ve been pushing to get that first win. We got it, and we deserved it. So it’s awesome.”
The Tigers and Bulldogs were tied 1-1 at the half. Both teams played with high intensity for the entire 90 minutes down until the end when Thomas’ goal gave LSU the lead.
LSU has six matches left in the regular season, including five SEC opponents and #5 Central Florida.
“Well, we expect to have some great opponents down the stretch,” head coach Brian Lee said. “I expect them to come fight. They are going to play their best on the day. I think a lot of those days their best will be good enough if we can continue on with a really strong effort.”
#19 LSU will travel to Oxford to play #25 Ole Miss this Sunday, October 8 at 2 p.m.
