The LSU football team was back home this weekend, against Syracuse.
Quarterbacks Danny Etling and Myles Brennan both took the field Saturday, to help lift the Tigers over the Orange, 35-26.
LSU was playing quarterback shuffle this weekend. The Tigers could be seeing more of Brennan in the future but head coach Ed Orgeron says that for now, they will be sticking with Etling as the starter.
“Danny is our quarterback, and that Myles did not beat him out, nothing like that tonight. It’s just in case Myles is one play away from if Danny gets hurt so we want him to get that experience in,” Orgeron said.
Orgeron will most likely let Brennan see more of the field this season, getting him more comfortable leading the Tigers under pressure.
“We wanted to give Myles Brennan some reps when the game was on the line, see what he could do. And obviously he did well in some situations, got to get better in other ones. Danny is also a great quarterback, we just wanted to give Myles a chance when the game was on the line,” Orgeron said.
Etling started and found wide receiver Stephen Sullivan in the second quarter for a 43 yard touchdown pass.
Just seconds into the second half, he threw a bomb to wide receiver Drake Davis for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Brennan came in almost halfway into the third quarter, bringing the Tigers 91 yards down the field to score.
Davis says that switching from Etling to Brennan was not hard to adjust to.
“You just got to know the timing. I know Danny’s timing, I know Myles’ timing, I know Justin’s timing, I know all the quarterbacks timing so you just have to be ready for whatever,” Davis said.
Etling came back in the fourth quarter.
He finished 10 for 17 in completions with two touchdowns for a total of 188 passing yards while Brennan went four for 6 with one interception and 75 passing yards.
The Tigers will be back in Death Valley Saturday, and LSU might see both quarterbacks on the field again.
