Syracuse head coach Dino Babers said in his post-game press conference after the LSU game that “wins are hard to come by.” While LSU came by a win on Saturday, it wasn’t as easy as was expected.
It was an exciting start to the game for Tiger fans. Redshirt freshman and cornerback Andraez “Greedy” Williams intercepted Syracuse QB Eric Dungey’s pass and returned it to the LSU 47 yard line. LSU RB Derrius Guice took it home to start the game 7-0.
Going further in the game, the Tigers began to stumble. Syracuse’s running quarterback and no-huddle offense made it difficult for the defensive line to keep up.
“A [no-huddle offense] is something that as a defensive lineman you don’t like,” says senior Christian LaCouture, “it wasn’t a stat game.”
Looking forward, LSU hopes to keep the momentum of minimal penalties. The Tigers have been averaging ten penalties a game, but against Syracuse they only committed three. There were zero penalties in the first half.
LSU will face-off against Troy on Sept. 30 for their homecoming game.
