Often when students are looking for fun events in Baton Rouge, places like Death Valley and Tigerland often come to mind. While those are part of Baton Rouge culture, there are other things to do that don’t require a football ticket or a $10 cover fee.
Some of the best things to do are luckily inexpensive. Caliente Mexican Craving, located at 1072 W. Lee Drive, has more than just queso and chips.
Its karaoke event “Singin’ and Sippin” occurs every Wednesday from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m., the same night as their other weekly two for one margarita special.
Gain the confidence with your discounted margaritas to sing your heart out every Wednesday night.
Hound Dogs, located at 668 Main St. in downtown Baton Rouge, is a hole-in-the-wall bar featuring a painting of a white hound dog on the outside. They host “Loco Karaoke Time,”an event that gives you the chance to sing along to your favorite 70s, 80s and 90s bops every Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m and every Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
It also has varying deals on drinks and food.
Movie Tavern on Juban Crossing in Denham Springs also has an open mic on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and trivia every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Prizes vary for trivia winners, and you can avoid the crowd at Mellow Mushroom.
If you’re feeling nostalgic, or just want to watch a quintessential part of movie history on the big screen, both venues of Movie Tavern on Citiplace and Juban Crossing host Retro Cinema, where they have screenings of movies like Back to the Future, The Big Lebowski, E.T. and Young Frankenstein.
The classics are featured every other Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
