U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was reportedly shot in the hip this morning at a GOP congressional baseball practice, Fox News originally reported.
Scalise, a Republican who represents Louisiana’s first congressional district, was hit by a rifle sometime around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia. At least one other aid was also hit, according to Fox News.
Other national news outlets have also published stories confirming Scalise’s injury.
“The thoughts and prayers of the entire LSU family are with Steve Scalise, his family, and all those injured,” LSU President F. King Alexander tweeted around 7:40 a.m.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer tweeted that both the president and vice president were aware of the situation.
