The LSU women’s basketball team failed to advance to the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament for the first time since 2001.
The No. 4-seeded Lady Tigers (20-9) lost to No. 5 Vanderbilt (22-9), 63-61, Friday night in Duluth, Ga.
LSU began the game on a 13-3 run, but Vanderbilt overcame the deficit behind 17-point performances by senior guard Merideth Marsh and junior forward Hannah Tuomi.
The win avenges the Lady Commodores’ 55-39 regular-season loss to LSU on Feb. 18. The 39 points were the fewest in Vanderbilt history.
LSU senior guard Allison Hightower led all scorers with 24 points, and junior guard Katherine Graham had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Vanderbilt will next face top-seeded Tennessee in a semifinal game on Saturday.
