LSU special teams coach Joe Robinson was named Special Teams Coach of the Year by Footballscoop.com on Tuesday.
Robinson, in his third season with the Tigers, has overseen one of the most effective special teams units in the country, led by senior kicker Josh Jasper and junior cornerback Patrick Peterson.
Jasper led the nation with 26 field goals made, while Peterson returned a kickoff and two punts for touchdowns.
Robinson’s unit currently ranks in the top 10 in kickoff returns (25.8) and net punting (39.2) and No. 12 in punt return average (13.5) and No. 13 in punt return defense (4.92).
“It’s great to see Coach Robinson rewarded for all of his hard work and the great job that he has done,” said LSU coach Les Miles in a statement. “He’s certainly deserving of this award.”
The award was established by Footballscoop.com in 2008 and the two previous winners include Ole Miss’ James Shibest and Texas’ Mike Tolleston.
