LSU passing game coordinator Jerry Sullivan retired on Wednesday. 

The 74-year-old’s announcement comes less than a year after accepting the position. He spent the last 12 months helping with the development of the wide receivers and worked with offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger on creating LSU’s offense.

In 2016, Sullivan worked as a consultant on LSU’s staff.

“Jerry had a great career, one that saw him develop, groom, mentor and train some of the best to ever play the wide receiver position at any level of football,” said LSU coach Ed Orgeron in the team’s press release. “I can’t thank Jerry enough for the contributions he made to our program over the past two years.”

Sullivan spent almost the entirety of his 47-year career coaching receivers. He was LSU’s wide receivers coach from 1984-1990 before spending one year at Ohio State and the following 25 years in the NFL before retiring in 2016.
