Ed Orgeron may soon sign a contract extension to keep him as LSU’s head coach, says a report by Amie Just of Nola.com | The Times Picayune.
Orgeron signed a five-year deal with LSU in November of 2016 that kept him under contract until Dec. 31, 2021. According to that contract, he makes $500,000 base salary and $3 million in additional income. He can also earn up to $1.58 million in bonuses.
In two full-seasons as LSU head coach, Orgeron is 19-7, 25-9 overall, and helped bring LSU its first major bowl win since 2006. The rumored contract extension is likely due to his on-field success, but also implications off-field like recruiting as well.
When the contract is finalized is uncertain, but the LSU Board of Supervisors must approve it. They’ll next meet on Mar. 15.
