LSU opened SEC plays against Missouri on March 16th, and Zack Hess started his first SEC game.
“I didn’t think anything was too different. They obviously have a very good ball club, and they’re an SEC caliber team,” Hess said of playing against Missouri in his first SEC start.
Hess did well through six innings, but Coach Paul Mainieri pulled him in the seventh after walking three straight batters.
“For the most part, I didn’t have my best stuff. I just had to battle through some things, but I was able to walk out there and keep our team in the game. As long as we got the win, that’s all that matters to me.”
Despite being pulled, Hess and LSU’s collective pitching did well, only allowing two runs, but the team did struggle offensively, leading to a tight game throughout.
LSU did walk away with a 4-2 win and will continue its series against Missouri on March 17th. First pitch is 6 p.m.
“I don’t know what you call it but he’s a closer,” Zack Hess on Austin Bain closing LSU’s 4-2 win
