LSU Starting Pitcher Caleb Gilbert had an excellent performance Saturday night at home against Sacred Heart. He led the Tigers to a win with 7 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, through which he held Sacred Heart to 4 hits and 0 walks. He also had 7 strikeouts.
LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri praised Gilbert’s performance and mentioned the importance of not awarding any free bases this weekend.
“That’s two nights in a row we didn’t walk a batter with our starting pitchers,” said Mainieri.
Gilbert talked about getting off to a good start and how that propelled him to continue his strong outing.
“It was definitely awesome just to go out there and have some clean innings early,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert is slated to pitch again Wednesday night on the road against the UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns.
As for the Tigers, their next test will be Sunday afternoon at 3 at home against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions.
