There were five pitchers wearing the purple and gold against Southeastern Sunday. Freshman RHP Ma’Khail Hilliard cam out on top.
Hilliard earned the win for the Tigers throwing half of LSU’s total game strike outs in just 30 pitches.
“I thought that Ma’Khail Hilliard was the story of the game. I thought he was outstanding,” said head coach Paul Mainieri.
Hilliard threw three strikeouts in nine pitches in his debut game against Grambling Tuesday. Since then, he has been playing a more dominant role on the mound.
However, the rest of LSU’s bullpen showed a lot of promise as well. Nick Bush threw three strikeouts and closer Austin Bain finished off the game with a strikeout swinging.
The Tiger fans who were worried about an entirely new pitching lineup at the beginning of the season may be changing their sentiments.
