A typical baseball game lasts about three hours but LSU’s game against Louisiana Tech lasted just one hour and 54 minutes. Shorter games are usually an indication of excellent pitching, something Tigers Head Coach Paul Maineri expected from the Bulldogs.
“It’s the kind of game I very much expected in all honesty. Their left-hander was as crafty as can be. First time through the lineup, he carved us up,” Coach Mainieri said about the Bulldogs’ pitcher.
LSU was only able to get two runs off of Bulldogs pitcher David Leal and AJ Labas knew he had to keep pace.
“It was back and forth. We were having really quick innings, being able to have our hitters go out there and have opportunities. The way I pitched today was a good thing for my team so I could keep them in the ball game,” Labas commented on his and Leal’s performance.
The Tigers held the Bulldogs scoreless throughout the game and Zach Watson and Antoine Duplantis batted in the purple and gold’s the 2-0 lead.
“Watson’s hit was huge, and Duplantis, that’s what your veteran’s do for you. They have to do for you to win. I’m not a smart man, but I know, if you don’t give up any runs, your chances of winning are pretty good,” Mainieri said.
Although the game was tight, LSU did enjoy the short time frame.
“I love that. That means our pitchers were filling up the zone, making those hitters work, and we were making our plays on defense,” Duplantis said.
“It was awesome for players. We were kind of joking around about it. I think that’s probably broke the record for my time here by 45 minutes. I mean it was unreal,” Caleb Gilbert said.
The Tigers next game is Friday as they start their weekend series against Tennessee
