Two Tigers will be continuing their softball careers once they leave LSU .
Senior pitchers Allie Walljasper and Carley Hoover were selected second and ninth overall in the 2018 National Pro Fastpitch Draft on Monday night.
The pitchers will join a number of former Tigers in the NPF including Tigers Sahvanna Jaquish, Bailey Landry, A.J. Andrews, Bianka Bell, Rachele Fico and Brittany Mack Oaks.
Walljasper was the second overall pick, only behind Oklahoma pitcher Paige Lowary. She will join the NPF’s Chinese addition, the Beijing Shougang Eagles.
“I am super blessed for this opportunity and very excited to go and play for the Eagles,” Walljasper said in a press release. “I am excited to meet new people and see what is in store. It’s a pretty big deal since I am from a small town in California.”
As a two-time All-American, Walljasper has accumulated a 57-21 record with a 1.54 ERA to this point in her LSU career.
This season, Walljasper is 13-4 with 108 strikeouts in 133.0 innings. She currently holds her opponents to a .175 batting average.
Hoover went in the third round, as the ninth overall pick to the Cleveland Comets, the NPF’s newest team, replacing the Akron Racers.
“I am very excited about being drafted,” Hoover said. “I’ve always wanted to be a professional athlete and I thank the Comets for choosing me.”
The All-American pitcher has posted a 70-28 record and a 1.67 ERA during her time as Tiger.
Hoover is 15-5 on the season with a 1.16 ERA with 164 strikeouts in 132.1 innings pitched in 2018.
The NPF, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, is the only women’s professional softball league in the United States.
Hoover and Walljasper make the ninth and tenth NFP draft picks under LSU coach Beth Torina.
Since 2012, the Tigers have had two No. 1 overall picks in Fico and Mack, No. 3 pick in Jaquish and No. 5 pick in Landry.
“Both [Hoover and Walljasper] are very deserving and have had great careers here at LSU,” Torina said . “They are talented enough to play at the next level and it’s a great opportunity for the both of them.
