A strange smell resulted in an evacuation Thursday morning around 9:15 a.m. in the Journalism Building.
After the police and fire department arrived on the scene, they determined it was a broken fan belt.
There is no danger and the fan belt has been fixed, according to Jessica Ricci the Manship Administrative Coordinator.
“At about nine this morning, we started to get complaints from staff members upstairs about an odd smell, smells kind of like burned toast, burned wires,” Ricci said. “As these complaints were coming in, that was compounded with the fire alarm going off.”
Ricci said that no classes had to be cancelled and all students and staff are safe. There is a lingering smell, but it is expected to go away as more air circulates through the building.
