Check out our top picks for one of the hottest award shows of the season:
COMEDY
“Atlanta”
Season two of “Atlanta” returns triumphantly to the 2018 Emmys with nominations in Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and three other acting categories. The show follows Earn (Donald Glover) as he aids his up-and-coming rapper brother while addressing hot-button social issues.
“GLOW”
Netflix’s “GLOW” is nominated for the Outstanding Comedy Series as well as nine other categories. The show follows struggling actress Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie) and a group of women wrestlers in the ‘80s as they deal with tensions that bubble over into the ring.
DRAMA
“The Handmaid’s Tale”
Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” based on the Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, returns to the Emmy Awards with 20 nominations. The latest season follows June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) as she fights to escape the dystopian society of Gilead.
“Game of Thrones”
With 22 nominations — the most of any other series in the running — the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” is unlikely to go home empty-handed. It is the most awarded series in Emmy Awards history with 38 wins under its belt, even with last year’s gap year because of missing the eligibility period.
LIMITED SERIES/TV MOVIE
“USS Callister” (“Black Mirror”)
Netflix’s infamous “Black Mirror” series makes a cameo with seven nominations for “USS Callister,” including Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for actor Jesse Plemons. Anyone with a working internet connection knows “USS Callister” slowly unravels the life of an unassuming man, revealing him to be a monster behind closed doors.
“Godless”
Netflix strikes again with “Godless,” a limited series nominated for 12 Emmys. The show, set in the 1880s American West, follows Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels) in a hunt for an old comrade that leads him to a New Mexico town populated almost entirely by women.
