Former LSU running back and all-time rushing leader Kevin Faulk will be joining the LSU football program as Director of Player Development, coach Ed Orgeron announced on Wednesday.
The football program is now one of three athletic programs at LSU to have a Director of Player Development. Tasmin Mitchell is the DOPD for the men’s basketball program, while Micah Gibbs is the DOPD for the baseball program.
Faulk is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in LSU history, not only being the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards and touchdowns, but also the SEC’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 6,833.
A three-time Super Bowl Champion, Faulk went on to have a 13-year NFL career in New England and is the Patriots’ all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 12,349.
Faulk’s duties as DOPD will include assisting the student-athletes with their social development, helping them focus on their growth in the classroom and helping incoming freshmen be better prepared for the challenges of being successful in the classroom and on the field.
After retiring from the NFL, Faulk was an assistant coach for the Carencro High School football team before accepting his new position at LSU.
“Kevin is one of the all-time LSU greats, and to have him in a role to mentor and develop our players is going to be benefit everyone associated with our program,” Orgeron said in a press release. “Our mission is to develop every aspect of a young man’s life while he’s part of our program, and Kevin is going to be instrumental in this process.”
