Louisiana faces a $30 million budget shortfall for this fiscal year, according to John Bel Edwards.
In a press conference held almost minutes after the special legislative session’s ending at 6 p.m., Edwards expressed his disappointment with the legislature.
“At the end of the day 18 of the 23 measures that I asked for were passed,” Edwards stated. He continued, “we could have done better. It is not a great day for the state of Louisiana.”
LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander spoke to Tiger TV about possible cuts to higher education shortly before the press conference.
“We’re holding our breath and going down to the wire,” Alexander said.
Alexander also noted that changes to the university have already occurred, saying “we’ve lost students, we’ve lost faculty, and we’re tired of that.”
