The University is investigating the campus chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity for “an alleged incident,” according to the fraternity’s Director of Communications and IT Tad Lichtenauer.
In an email, Lichtenauer said he could not comment any further until the conclusion of the investigation.
In a statement to The Daily Reveille, LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard said “there isn’t anything specific we can confirm at this time” and noted that the University would adhere to the process outlined in Policy Statement 52 if an incident had been reported.
According to the policy statement, the Office of the Dean of Students must conduct a preliminary investigation into reported allegations of misconduct, which would be followed up with formal charges “if the preliminary investigation indicates that there is reasonable cause to believe that misconduct has occurred on the part of a student organization.”
During a prehearing conference, the student organizations’ officers would discuss the charges with the Dean of Students and decide whether they would like to proceed with either an administrative action or referral to a hearing panel. Potential penalties include a letter of University reprimand, University probation, total probation and rescission of University registration.
