Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity will not be kicked off campus, but will be put on University probation until May 31, 2019, according to the punishment letter from the Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability. The fraternity was undergoing the disciplinary process following an investigation into reported hazing.
The ruling came after the fraternity appealed to a University panel. The fraternity chose to go to the panel rather than to accept the University’s original punishment, which would have rescinded the chapter’s registration with the University.
The probation will prevent the fraternity from recruiting new members, being involved in intramural sports and participating in social functions until Aug. 1, 2017. All current associate members must be initiated by Oct. 15
“By providing these restrictions, it is our hope that the fraternity will focus on building internal framework to break the cycle of hazing and to move forward as a strong role model at LSU,” the letter states.
