Whether your relationship status says “taken,” “single” or “it’s complicated,” Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a holiday to groan over. Here are a few date options for you to enjoy with whoever you spend your day with.
Valentine’s Day is considered the best or worst day of the year depending on your romantic situation, but Valentine’s Day can be great whether you’re single or with someone.
Dinner:
An always popular date is dinner, since everyone loves a delicious meal for a change of pace from Easy Mac and Ramen Noodles . Baton Rouge has a wide range of good meals from The Chimes near campus to Tsunami in downtown Baton Rouge — you and your partner could stay in for a romantic homemade dinner.
Aside from the meal, don’t give each other ridiculously large gifts in the restaurant. That’s just awkward for you, your date and everyone around you.
Movie:
Another popular Valentine’s Day date is going to the movies. And every year, the theaters fill with pro- and anti-romance films. Last year it was “Fifty Shades of Grey,” This year it looks like it will be “The Choice,” a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel.
However there are also a lot of nontraditional Valentine’s Day movies coming out this weekend like “Deadpool,” which is a movie that comic book and superhero fans have been waiting for. Lead actor Ryan Reynolds offers up R-rated laughs along with butt-kicking action.
“Fifty Shades” star Dakota Johnson takes on a new type of film this Valentine’s Day with Rebel Wilson in “How to Be Single.” The comedy will have you laughing your single self all the way to the bar afterward.
Outdoor Activities:
If the weather permits, going on a picnic brings a new meaning to going out to eat.
A scavenger hunt is another outdoor option and more creative than a wine and cheese basket. You can have hints, riddles and all sorts of clues for your significant other to find throughout the day.
Parties:
Don’t have that special someone to share the day with? Throw a “galentine’s day” or “palentine’s day” party for you and your other single friends. If you tell your friends to bring friends, you may even find yourself a date.
