LSU’s offensive line, again, had a new look on Saturday.
Junior left tackle K.J. Malone did not play in the second half of LSU’s 10-0 loss against top-ranked Alabama after suffering a stinger to his left bicep, the LSU Sports Radio Network reported in the third quarter.
LSU coach Ed Orgeron did not have an update regarding Malone after the game.
“I’ll find out a little bit later,” the coach said directly after the loss.
With Malone’s absence, sophomore “swingman” Maea Teuhema shifted to fill Malone’s spot for the remainder of the game.
“He played great,” said fellow offensive lineman Will Clapp. “He recognized a lot of blitzes, put me on a lot of stuff. He played great. That kid can move side to side. He’s a swingman, he can do it all.”
Teuhema began the game at right tackle, filling in for Toby Weathersby, who had not played since LSU’s 23-20 win against Mississippi State on Sept. 17 prior to Saturday.
‘Honey Badger’ donates $1 million to LSU
In a honorary moment in the first quarter, LSU announced former defensive back and current Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu donated $1 million to the university, the school announced.
The “Honey Badger,” as Mathieu’s nicknamed, became the second member of the Cardinals’ secondary to donate $1 million to the university as fellow former LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson did so last fall.
Mathieu’s donation will go toward improvement to LSU’s football operations facility. Peterson and Mathieu were honorary guest captains for LSU’s game against the Tide.
