It was a tale of two halves in Death Valley Saturday Night.
“At halftime we made some adjustments offensive and defensively,” Interim Head Coach Ed Orgeron said. “The biggest adjustment was to stop shooting ourselves in the foot with penalties.”
The Tigers came out after their week off flat, but Derrius Guice turned it around to give the Tigers a substantial lead in the third quarter.
“We had a little rust off of the crazy week we had last week and were playing flat,” quarterback Danny Etling said. “We came in here, there was no screaming or yelling or blaming each other.”
Etling finished with 276 yards on 11 completions with three touchdowns and an interception.
“They were challenged and they came out and played 60 minutes,” Orgeron said.
Guice was once again filling in for Leonard Fournette and says that he has no problem stepping in to the starting role.
“Every time I go in I got to play as a starter,” Guice said.
Guice and the offense gave the team the spark they needed to take down the Golden Eagles.
“That’s what we needed. We needed that spark. We made a stop on D and got the ball back and they punched it in,” Jamal Adams said.
The Tigers’ biggest challenge will come next week when they take on Orgeron’s former team the Ole Miss Rebels in Tiger Stadium. Orgeron thinks this is a game no Tiger fans should miss.
“This is why you come to LSU. This is why you sign here. This is why you coach here. I’m sure Tiger Stadium will be wild on Saturday Night and I’m sure Ole Miss will be ready to play,” Orgeron said. “It should be a classic battle.”
