He was sidelined for two straight games, but tonight Leonard Fournette reminded the SEC west who’s king.
“It was great to have Leonard back,” Ed Orgeron said. “I think he’s the best player in America but that’s not for me to decide.”
Fournette had three touchdowns in the first half. All of which were over 50 yards.
“It’s something that I think all great players do. Before the play starts they picture themselves breaking away,” Fournette said.
This was the first game Fournette played in since Orgeron took over for Les Miles, and Coach O says he has never seen anything like him.
“I’ve never been part of a player like Leonard,” Orgeron said. “He’s dynamic. I believe he’s the best player in the country.”
Fournette also broke an LSU record for most yards in a single game with 285 yards.
“It’s a privilege for not just me but my O line too because without those guys, especially the wide receivers on the back end, it wouldn’t be possible,” Fournette said.
Fournette was the star of the first half, but the defense was the center of attention in the second half. For the second straight game they did not give up a point in the final 30 minutes.
“We played hard on defense. We caused some turnovers. Some of which were very close and could have put the game out of hand.”
Just as they did to Southern Miss, the defense took complete control of the second half.
Now with a big SEC west win under their belt, the Tigers feel ready to take on the number one team in the nation.
“We’re going to be very excited to play a very good football team,” Orgeron said. “We’re going to be up for the challenge. It’s going to be physical football game.”
