Princeton, N.J., police arrested LSU graduate Michael Lohman last week for cutting women’s hair and squirting urine and semen on them and in their drinks, Princeton police announced Monday after a three-week investigation.
A Princeton University investigator said he linked Lohman, 28, to several complaints, all from women of Asian decent. Lohman received a master’s degree in 2002 and a bachelor’s degree in 2001 — both in mathematics — from the University.
Detectives arrested Lohman after he admitted he cut several female students’ hair and squirted bodily fluids on them while riding in campus shuttles. Lauren Robinson-Brown, Princeton University spokeswoman, told The Daily Reveille that Lohman admitted involvement in four cases police knew about. He also admitted involvement in several other similar acts the police did not know about.
Princeton police Lt. Dennis McManimon said police believe Lohman squirted semen and urine in the drinks of more than 50 women in the Graduate College Dining Hall at Princeton.
McManimon also said police found a stash of women’s panties and mittens in his apartment.
Lohman is working on his Ph.D. in mathematics at Princeton University.
McManimon said the investigation began in early March when a woman of Asian descent told the public safety department that an unidentified male was walking close to her while she was waiting to board a campus shuttle. She reported that he sat close behind her on the bus, and she felt a bump on the back of her head. She said she later realized he had cut out a chunk of her hair.
Police said they found the woman’s hair on the shuttle.
Working with police, Princeton’s public safety department suspected that the incident may have been connected to three previous complaints from other women of Asian decent who said they saw a white man pouring a strange substance into their drinks.
LSUPD Maj. Ricky Adams said his office has no records of arrests or complaints against Lohman during the time he attended LSU. He also said there are no unsolved cases from women reporting someone cutting their hair or squirting fluids in their drinks.
Leonard Richardson, director of graduate studies in mathematics at LSU, said he remembers Lohman as a “bright, first-rate student.”
“There was nothing to suggest such mental instability,” said Richardson, who knew Lohman for two or three years. “I am stunned, saddened and disappointed.”
Princeton officials said Lohman is not expelled from Princeton University, but he is banned from physically returning to campus. He will be tried in an internal disciplinary procedure.
Police charged Lohman with two counts of recklessly endangering another person, two counts of tampering with a food product, one count of harassment and one count of theft.
Authorities transported Lohman to a health center for a mental evaluation. As of Thursday evening, he was still in custody.
