The patio of Serrano’s hosted more than just the average Mexican food-loving crowd on Friday as Pi Sigma Epsilon put on its second annual Rock N Wear fashion show.
The fashion show with a distinctly LSU flair had Lazy K providing the music as students strutted their stuff on the runway wearing clothes by local vendors like FeBe and Stella.
Elizabeth Stuart, mass communication freshman, works at Frock Candy, which provided clothes for the fashion show. She said the fashion show offers something out of the ordinary to do on a Friday night.
“In New York and everything, fashion shows are normal,” Stuart said. “But down here it brings everybody together to have a good time.”
Pi Sigma Epsilon hosted the fashion show to raise money for members to attend their national convention in February – this year in Minneapolis, Minn.
Cassie Bouillion, marketing senior and project manager of the fashion show, said the show raised $1,032.
“We try to pay for every chapter member to go completely for free,” Bouillion said. “That’s always the goal but it’s hard to do that.”
Bouillion said she was pleased with the way the show turned out.
“I’m very relieved; the show went great,” Bouillion said. “I’ve been working on this for three months.”
Bouillion said the idea for the fashion show came from a member last year.
“It’s a member-driven organization, so pretty much anything that anyone comes up with we try to make it happen if it’s feasible,” Bouillion said.
Bouillion said the fashion show is different from what people would expect.
“I think its kind of a fun, unique event,” Bouillion said. “Even though it is a fashion show, we have a band there, and it’s a band that people like to see. It’s a laid-back atmosphere.”
Brittany Chauffe, marketing junior and head of promotions for the fashion show, said she worked hard to get the word out about the show.
“We even had a Facebook party,” Chauffe said.
Chauffe said the show could not take place without the help of their sponsors.
“This show is also for them,” Chauffe said. “It’s their clothes, their jewelry, their shoes. It’s just as much for them as it is for Pi Sig.”
Alex Smith, business management junior and member of Pi Sigma Epsilon, modeled for Tammy Zechman jewelry.
“I loved getting our hair done,” Smith said. “I told them to go psycho and make our hair and make up crazy.”
Smith said she thinks the fashion show is successful because it features local boutiques.
“It’s local businesses so you can come see what’s new and fun, and it’s at a fun place like Serrano’s,” Smith said. “You can come drink a margarita and watch the show.”
Jewelry designer Tammy Zechman participated in Rock N Wear last year. She said even though the show is student-run, it is still very organized.
“You guys are very professional,” Zechman said. “It’s absolutely a fraternity I want my son to be in.”
Bouillion said she thinks the show will only get better and better.
“It’s pretty good for being the second time doing it,” Bouillion said. “I only hope to make it even better next time.”
