The University Registrar announced this week that visiting students have the option to stay one more semester if they meet requirements.
Administrators originally said visiting students would only be allowed to stay one semester but changed the policy after recognizing many are still unable to return home because of a lack of housing.
The registrar sent e-mails to displaced students explaining their options of returning to the University.
The students can return next semester as transfer students, freshmen or continuing visiting students, said University Registrar Robert Doolos.
“We’re not trying to raid other schools of their students,” Doolos said. “We’re just trying to accommodate them.”
To return as continuing visiting students, they must have an LSU GPA of 3.0 and have earned at least six credit hours on the University’s campus, Doolos said.
Doolos said if students want to continue as visiting students, they must respond to the registrar’s e-mail that will be sent Dec. 22.
Students reapplying as freshmen and transfer students will go through the regular admission process, but will be reimbursed for the application fee, Doolos said.
