A giant inflatable tiger standing boldly in the middle of Free Speech Alley Friday convinced hundreds of students to attend Late Night LSU.
The tiger, which stood in front of the Union all day Friday, proudly bore the words “Late Night LSU” across his chest and successfully did its job of promoting theevent.
The Union was alive late Friday night with people who participated in different inflatable games, crafts, mini-massages and other activities.
The Union Program Council sponsors a late night event at least once a month, but several students were experiencing the fun for the first time.
“Although I’ve been at the University for three years, I’ve never had the chance to participate in a lot of campus activities,” said elementary education senior Micah Cating. “So I was looking forward to this one.”
Cating said he enjoyed watching people beat up their friends in the human joust and also really liked his 10-minute massage.
Rachel Brown, a marketing junior, said she was disappointed when she missed the first event of the year, so she made sure to make it to this one.
“This event is good for bringing people together,” Brown said. “It’s on campus and it’s free.”
Brown worked hard to paint herself a beautiful picture frame, which was one of several arts and crafts options, and also was looking forward to climbing the inflatable rock wall.
Many participants came to the Union out of mere curiosity.
Brenda Hawkins, a biology junior, lives on campus and came with a group of her friends.
“I just came to see what was going on,” Hawkins said. “[This event] seems to give you a chance to just have a lot of fun.”
Hawkins waited in a long, but quick, line to make a multi-colored wax hand. She also was eagerly anticipating the chance to make a music video with her friends.
Lindsey Galliano, a fashion design sophomore, also was looking forward to making a wax hand.
Galliano found the sumo wrestling hilarious, but instead took part in the human jousting, where she successfully beat up her best friend.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and appreciate the variety of activities available to them.
UPC sponsors a late night event the first Friday of every month.
