The LSU golf teams participate in tournaments hosted by fellow Southeastern Conference members this weekend.
The LSU men compete at the University of Alabama’s Conrad Rehling Invitational. The teams will play three 18-hole rounds beginning at 8 a.m. today through Sunday. LSU is paired up with Golf Digest’s No. 17 Michigan State today at 11:20 a.m.
Other teams competing in the 13-team field include No. 12 Illinois and SEC foes Kentucky, Mississippi State, Auburn and Ole Miss.
The Tigers come off an eighth-place finish with a 17-over par 881 at the Louisiana Classic Intercollegiates at Lafayette, which concluded Tuesday. LSU sophomore Heath West tied for fifth-place at 3-under par 213 in the 54-hole tournament. Senior John Humphries tied for 25th place with a 4-over par 220.
LSU head coach Greg Jones said the play of West and Humphries has been solid but looks for better play from the rest of team.
“Both John and Heath have really been playing well, but we need to get consistent scoring from all five guys to really get it done,” said Jones.
The LSU women are on the road at the University of South Carolina’s
Lady Gamecock Classic. The 54-hole tournament tees off today at 8 a.m. and concludes Sunday morning.
Ten of the 15 teams participating rank in the Top 25, including No. 2 Duke and No. 12 New Mexico.
Lady Tiger Vicky Meyer led LSU in her college debut two weeks ago at Purdue’s Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Brazil native posted a 6-over par 222 in the tournament.
