Plans are in the works to renovate the CEBA courtyard, making it more welcoming for students and faculty.
Wendy Luedtke, College of Business director of alumni relations and programs, said the plans include purchasing tables with umbrellas, initiating landscaping projects and creating a café and study area.
“We want to make it an inviting-looking courtyard,” Luedtke said.
The Interbusiness Organization Council, which ties all student business organizations together, is overseeing the project. Each business-related student organization will be donating an undetermined amount of money to the project.
Sally Milligan, a marketing junior and Business College Council vice president, said the idea is to make the area a more pleasant place for students to relax and study.
“CEBA is a kind of student-unfriendly building,” Milligan said.
In addition to better landscaping and a more inviting study area, Milligan said there are discussions to ban smoking in the courtyard.
“There’s poor ventilation in the area, and a lot of the smoke kind of lingers in the air,” Milligan said.
Students said they supported the idea of renovating the area.
Adnan Fahmee, an ISDS senior, said he liked the idea of having the area more student-friendly, and he hopes it will remain open after classes end.
“It will be great to see something here,” said Safayat Hossain, an ISDS senior. “It will be a good place to sit and have group discussions.”
