A flatbed trailer hit a student visiting the University for Spring Testing Thursday afternoon on the corner of Raphael Semmes and Highland Road.
Erica Fowler, a spring tester from Texas, said she saw the victim walking across Highland Road when the trailer hit him.
“He flipped in the air and landed on the ground,” Fowler said.
Lt. Lawrence Rabalais of the LSU Police Department said the victim was attempting to cross the road when the truck traveling southbound on Highland struck him.
“The gate of the trailer hit him in the left elbow,” Rabalais said.
The driver of the truck pulling the trailer, David Dansky, said he never saw the victim.
“I guess he saw my truck pass through the intersection and didn’t realize there was a trailer behind me,” Dansky said.
Witnesses said the victim lay on the ground laughing after being hit, but was unable to stand up on his own.
Rabalais said the victim was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
“It’s nothing life-threatening,” Rabalais said.
