A high school student from Mandeville, La., was transported to a local hospital April 5, after he drank too much alcohol at a Sigma Phi Epsilon party, witnesses said in a police report.
LSUPD responded to a call about an unconscious person at the Sig Ep house at 2:50 a.m.
When officers arrived at the house, EMS and the fire department were already there tending to the unconscious victim. A witness told EMS the victim drank too much alcohol, said LSUPD Lt. Lawrence Rabalais.
EMS transported Collin Eley, 18, of 114 White Oak Drive in Mandeville, La., to Our Lady of the Lake for treatment, Rabalais said.
A spokesperson for the hospital could not give information about Eley’s condition or when he was released.
The Dean of Students Office currently is investigating the incident.
“We are trying to get the most complete picture we can,” said Kevin Price, dean of students. “Other than that I cannot comment on an ongoing investigation.”
Price said he hopes to finish the investigation before the semester ends, but he cannot give a definite timetable.
Bro. Raymond Bulliard, principal at the St. Paul’s school in Covington, La., said because the incident took place outside the jurisdiction of the school, he was not playing a direct role in the situation or the investigation.
He said he spoke to Eley and his parents from a counseling perspective. The school also “evoked the athletic penalty for use” suspending him from any activity with his athletic team, Bulliard said.
“We are distressed whenever we hear of an incident, especially when students go off on a college visit,” Bulliard said. “We are extremely concerned and conveyed that concern to the parents and the young man.”
Chris Hudson, Sig Ep president, also said he could not comment on the specifics of the incident because it is an ongoing investigation.
