When it rains, it pours. That is the motto for the LSU softball team when it comes to midweek games.
For the second time this season, games against Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese State were postponed due to thunderstorms and rain. The original games were scheduled Feb. 26 (McNeese) and March 6 (SLU).
LSU head coach Yvette Girouard said having to reschedule the games multiple times has been frustrating, but the players must battle through it.
“I don’t remember a season quite as wet as this year,” Girouard said. “Our cleats have been dry for maybe four games.”
Girouard said not playing hurts the team because it loses a chance to gain confidence against in-state schools and prepare for the weekend Southeastern Conference opponent.
“There have been some wins that maybe went by the wayside,” Girouard said. “In some cases it may have hurt us, but I think last Saturday it was good for us to get the weekend off.”
The SLU game will be made up next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The McNeese contest will be played at a later date, but Girouard doubts the doubleheader will be played.
“There’s no way we’re going to reschedule McNeese,” Girouard said. “They’ve been here twice already.”
