LSU senior men’s golfer John Humphries added another accomplishment to his successful season. He was among the eight golfers from the Southeastern Conference named to the All-SEC first team.
“I am very happy for John to receive this honor,” said LSU coach Greg Jones.
Humphries led the Tigers this season, averaging 72.3 strokes a round. He finished under par in twenty rounds, helping him grab nine top 20 tournament finishes and six top 10 finishes. This tied him with fellow SEC first-teamer David Skinns from Tennessee and second-teamer Tyler McKeever of Auburn for the third-most top 10 finishes in the SEC.
His first-career tournament victory came this season as he captured first place at the LSU Spring Invitational by shooting a 5-under-par 211. Humphries finished his career as a Tiger on a strong note. While the LSU golf team finished last in the SEC Tournament, Humphries grabbed fifth place, shooting a 214, 4-over-par for his second consecutive top 10 finish in the tournament.
“He really deserved to make first team, and it’s nice for him to get it in his final season because he has meant so much to our team and program for four years,” Jones said.
Also making the All-SEC first team were Florida’s Brett Stegmaier, Vanderbilt’s Brandt Snedeker, Georgia’s Kevin Kisner. Florida’s James Vargas, Eirik Johansen of South Carolina, Razorback Andrew Dahl and Skinns of Tennessee.
Auburn had three representatives on the All-SEC second team, while Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky all had one.
The league office also announced Florida coach Buddy Alexander as the SEC Coach of the Year. Commodore Brandt Snedeker was named conference Player of the Year and Georgia’s Kevin Kisner was deemed SEC Freshman of the Year.
