Despite falling to Florida in last weekend’s meet, the LSU gymnastics team moved up to No. 10 in the national rankings. Previously, the Tigers were ranked No. 12. They also placed in the top 15 on each of the four events.
“I think it’s great that we moved up,” said junior Lindsay Beddow. “We’re at where we need to be right now, but we need to work harder to move up further.”
A top 12 ranking is important for the Lady Tigers to receive a good seating in the regional tournament. A high average team score is more important than their win loss record. This explains why the team moved up in the rankings with a score of 196.500 even though they did not record a victory against Florida.
UCLA also moved up to the top ranking in the country with an average score of 197.109. The Tigers’ next opponent, Alabama ranked third with a score of 196.917 and Southeastern Conference rival Georgia ranked fourth scoring 196.900.
Three Tigers ranked individually in the Top 25. Sophomore Katherine Hilton placed 20th nationally in the uneven bars, while Beddow ranked 23rd. Freshman standout April Burkholder ranks 18th after capturing the floor title in last Friday’s meet.
