Welcome to “Kitchen Stadium,” where University students will get to see one student and one staff member battle each other in the cooking competition of their lives at Late Night LSU’s “Iron Chef” competition.
The Union Program Council is sponsoring Late Night LSU as a chance for students to experience a diverse group of events on one night and in one place.
This semester Late Night LSU is planned for the first Friday night of each month. The first night will be tonight from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The evening will include the “Iron Chef” cooking competition based on the popular television show, along with a host of other events for all University students.
Jason Meier, Union program coordinator, said the chefs will compete against each other in the cooking competition, which is centered around one secret ingredient.
There will be a panel of judges and two commentators to give students the feeling of being at the real “Iron Chef,” Meier said.
Some of the other events scheduled for the evening include a Play Station 2 tournament, a poetry slam in the Atchafalya Room, sumo wrestling, free bowling and billiards, tarot card reading and numerology. Students also can watch “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” at 10:30 p.m.
Meier said the council wanted to host the event the first Friday of each month starting last semester, but unfortunately Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili canceled two dates.
Meier said the UPC hopes to have an Iron Chef event twice a semester, along with a continued diverse group of events to keep students interested.
