Though the process has changed during the years, homecoming is a tradition students have enjoyed for decades.
According to the “L” book, in the early days of the University, women had many chances to be named queen.
Queens were chosen from each individual college, for the annual rodeo and for balls. But, being named homecoming queen was an honor above everything else.
At first, only queens enjoyed the glory of reigning over homecoming. In 1991, LSU students selected their first king.
The contest to be named queen was based on beauty at first, nominees were chosen by the football team.
Today, nominees are nominated by an organization or they can nominate themselves.
Five finalists are chosen for king and five for queen based on involvement on campus, not beauty. The student body then choses the king and queen.
