For the third weekend in a row, LSU has to deal with Bulldogs. It’s really getting old. I know Western Illinois’ mascot is the Leathernecks, but if you look at their media guide it really is a Bulldog with a leather collar. Then the Tigers had the Georgia Bulldogs. Now Mississippi State.
Something I have never understood about the Southeastern Conference is why we have schools in the league with the same mascot. This doesn’t happen anywhere else in the country.
LSU and Auburn are both Tigers. Mississippi State and Georgia are both Bulldogs. If it were up to me, only the two teams with these mascots should be allowed to play a game for the right to call themselves their preferred mascot.
If that were to happen and LSU and Auburn would play for the right to be called Tigers, I have a hunch that the Bayou Bengals would come out on top. Auburn fans shouldn’t be upset about this anyway. They don’t call themselves Tigers. They have a skinny fake Tiger “Aubie,” who would not stand a chance against Mike. But the only live mascot is an eagle named “Tiger” that swoops around all over the stadium.
Ever been to a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium and hear their “War Eagle” chant? They seem to like that one better anyway, so why even keep the Tiger mascot? It makes things too confusing whenever Auburn and LSU get together for a game.
State and Georgia don’t even need to play a game for the right to be called Bulldogs. Mississippi State should just go ahead and concede that one. The only real Bulldogs in the SEC are in Athens. If State and UGA were to play a game, Georgia would probably win 70-10. In fact, a better matchup might be Georgia’s “Uga” bulldog versus State’s “Bully” and see which one could poop the most. Now that would be exciting. I’d give the slight edge to Uga on that one.
State should change its name to the Cows since those Starkville natives love ringing those blasted cowbells. Boy, those MSU fans just got so upset when the SEC wouldn’t let them bring those things into the stadium anymore.
Too bad State can’t have them Saturday; they’re going to need all the help and inspiration they can get against a far superior LSU team.
Too many Tigers, Bulldogs
